Mrauk-U, August 6.
In Mrauk-U town, which is under the control of the Arakan Army (AA), local residents confirmed that around 8 p.m. on August 5, an elderly man was killed by three young men who broke into his home.
According to family members, the victim 56-year-old U Maung Thein Shwe, a resident of Barbu Taung Ward in Mrauk-U was attacked and beaten to death inside his house by the three young men using knives and sticks.
“He was killed while staying at home. My father was alone. Only my mother and father lived together,” a family member told Border News Agency.
It is reported that three sons of U Maung Sein Kyaw, a native of Su Ritchaung in Mrauk-U Township, forcibly entered U Maung Thein Shwe’s home and carried out the violent killing.
According to local residents in Mrauk-U, those who committed the violent home invasion and murder were identified as the sons of U Maung Sein Kyaw: 36-year-old Zaw Naing Oo, 25-year-old Aung Thu Nyein, and 19-year-old Lin Kyaw Htoo.
The suspects are currently being detained and investigated by the police force of the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government, and the victim’s family members are calling for swift justice to be served.
“Our only wish is to get justice. Our father was unjustly killed,” a family member told Border News Agency.
According to the family, U Thein Shwe sustained multiple severe injuries, including a ruptured abdomen and mutilation of his genital area. He passed away around 8 a.m. on August 6 while receiving medical treatment.
Those who carried out the violent killing of U Thein Shwe were reportedly his neighbors. It is said that during the construction of the suspects’ family home, part of U Maung Thein Shwe’s house structure was affected and destabilized, which had led to tensions between the two sides.
The three suspects involved in the murder are currently being detained and investigated by the police force of the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government. The victim’s family members are demanding the maximum punishment for those responsible.
