Arakan Health Department Calls for Applications to Midwifery Training Program

The Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government’s Department of Health announced today, August 19, that applications are now open for midwifery training.

According to the announcement, midwives will be appointed under the village health departments and sub-departments of the Arakan People’s Health Department in order to help address the healthcare needs of the Arakan people.

The midwifery training program will last for 18 months and is open to applicants of any ethnicity or religion who are capable of serving in healthcare duties, the statement said.

The training will include maternal care during pregnancy, delivery assistance, postnatal care, newborn care, child healthcare for those under five, reproductive health services, and nutrition development programs.

In addition, trainees will also be responsible for providing medical treatment at village health departments and sub-departments, collecting and compiling health-related records, conducting public health awareness programs, controlling communicable diseases, preventing and treating non-communicable diseases, implementing environmental and occupational health programs, as well as school health programs, the statement said.

Furthermore, they will be tasked with disease prevention and control of highly contagious illnesses, disaster response, and the management of emergency health situations.

Applicants must be women under the age of 25 and are required to present proof of passing the 12th Grade Examination organized by the Arakan People’s Government, or otherwise proof of passing the university entrance exam under the old system, according to the statement.

In addition, candidates must have a clean criminal record, good moral character, be in good health, free from blood-borne diseases, and be able to travel and work in any location.

Upon completion of the training, graduates will be appointed as midwives under the Arakan People’s Health Department and must serve for at least five years in any assigned location.

Those who have completed auxiliary midwife, nursing aide, or community health worker training courses offered by health departments or hospitals, and who have also received higher education, are eligible to apply, the statement said.

Along with the application, candidates must submit a copy of their national registration card, two passport-sized photographs (4.5 cm × 4 cm), academic qualification certificates, and a certificate of good conduct and clean criminal record issued by the relevant ward or village administrator.

Applications must be submitted to the respective township People’s Health Departments no later than September 5.

For the selection process, candidates will not be individually notified but may inquire at the respective township hospitals or health departments between September 10 and 17.

Those who are finally selected will be required to complete the 18-month training program and sign a bond committing to serve as staff after graduation. Applicants who are already employees of any department must also provide a recommendation letter from their respective supervisors.
