Over 257 billion Kyats Worth of Narcotics Destined for Rakhine and Malaysia Seized

On August 22, the junta’s Myanmar Police Force reported that a drug-smuggling gang, planning to transport narcotics to Rakhine and Malaysian waters, was arrested in Yangon Region’s Shwe Pyi Thar and Kwan Chan Kone Townships.

Drugs worth over 257 billion mmk, including 218,000 methamphetamine tablets, were seized.

It is reported that on August 5, 40 million methamphetamine tablets were seized from a Canter Box vehicle driven by Aung Lin and a Subaru Stella driven by Thaung Tun at the intersection of 4th Street and Ngarkan Road in Shwepyitha Township.

It is reported that on August 5, Tun Thein, who was responsible for transporting the methamphetamine tablets, was caught at a warehouse in Ward 4, Shwepyitha Township with 178 million methamphetamine tablets. Along with a Toyota Rush vehicle, 2,180,000 methamphetamine tablets worth 21.8 billion mmk were also seized.

It is reported that on August 11, 1,899 kilograms of psychotropic drugs worth 94.95 billion mmk, intended for Malaysian waters, were seized near Shrimp pond in Aungzeya Village, Kwan Chan Kone Township.

Continuing on, on August 13, Kyaw Soe Khine, who had kept a motorboat that was planned to be used for transporting narcotic drugs by Kyaw Swar Win (from Kwan Chan Kone), was also arrested at Nanthuzar Bridge in Myeik Township, Myeik Myo Taung Village.

After that, according to the disclosure of Kyaw Swar Win (from Kwan Chan Kone), a haul of 5,617.2 kilograms of ICE (methamphetamine), valued at 140.355 billion kyats, which was intended to be transported into Malaysian waters, was seized along the roads of Aung Zeya Village, Lakhokekon Village, and the route between Lakhokekon and Se Ein Kone Villages in Kwan Chan Kone Township.

It is reported that the person responsible for transporting the drugs through Rakhine to the Myanmar-Bangladesh border was Tun Thein.

According to the junta’s statement, when methamphetamine tablets arrive in Myaybon Township, Rakhine, a transit tax of 300,000 kyats per 10,000 tablets must be paid to Ko Yay (a customs officer with the rank of captain) of the AA group.

It is stated that, including the 13 people already arrested, legal action has also been taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law against 9 others who are still at large, and further efforts are being made to expose the networks.
