Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus has unveiled a seven-point roadmap for the safe, dignified, voluntary, and sustainable repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar, urging the international community to move from “rhetoric to action.”

He presented the plan while addressing the “Stakeholders’ Dialogue: Takeaways to the High-Level Conference on Rohingya Situation” held in Cox’s Bazar on Monday, marking the eighth anniversary of the Rohingya exodus from Rakhine.

Prof. Yunus said Bangladesh has shouldered the burden of hosting more than 1.3 million Rohingyas for eight years but cannot continue indefinitely without a durable solution. “We must not be hostage to endless discussions. The time for action is now,” he stressed.

The seven-point proposal includes:

1. Guaranteeing the Rohingyas’ right to return to Rakhine in dignity.
2. Securing sustained international aid and closing funding gaps in the 2025–26 Joint Response Plan.
3. Ending violence by all parties in Myanmar and ensuring safety for Rohingyas and displaced people.
4. Establishing inclusive dialogue platforms for reconciliation and restoration of rights.
5. Engaging ASEAN, regional neighbors, and global actors to stabilize the situation.
6. Opposing ethnic cleansing and recalibrating international ties with Myanmar.
7. Strengthening international accountability mechanisms, including compliance with ICJ orders and pursuing justice for genocide and crimes against humanity.

The event also observed “Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day” with a one-minute silence and screening of a documentary on the plight of the community.

High Representative for the Rohingya Issue Dr. Khalilur Rahman highlighted that Bangladesh has reached the limits of its resources and called for urgent global action.

The roadmap will be carried forward to the upcoming High-Level Conference on the Rohingya Situation, scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York later this year.
