Major General Twan Mrat Naing Expresses Concern Over Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s Health

The Arakan Army (AA) Commander-in-Chief, General Twan Mrat Naing, has expressed concern over the health of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi of the National League for Democracy (NLD) government.

Major General Twan Mrat Naing and Kim Aris, also known as Htein Lin, the son of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, met online.

Ko Htein Lin shared on his social media page today, September 6, that the meeting took place online. He mentioned that Major General Twan Mrat Naing expressed deep respect for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and concern for her health.

Ko Htein Lin shared on his social media that Major General Twan Mrat Naing firmly stated that without the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other political prisoners, it would be impossible to build a genuine and trustworthy peace.

Ko Htein Lin himself also expressed high praise for the Arakan Army, led by Major General Twan Mrat Naing, saying that he deeply appreciated the remarkable progress they have achieved within a short period of time.

Ko Htein Lin said that through these conversations, he gained a deeper understanding of the conflicts faced by the Rakhine people and the hardships they endure while fleeing the war.

Kim Aris said he realized that their resilience and perseverance serve as a reminder of how crucial it is for people across Myanmar to work together in solidarity.

He added that both of them agreed to remain trusted friends, to support and help each other, and to continue striving for a federal democratic Myanmar where everyone can live with dignity and peace.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained since the military coup on February 1, 2021. She was charged with a total of 19 cases and sentenced to 33 years in prison.

Kim Aris also shared on his social media that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been suffering from heart disease and that her health condition has been worsening, yet she has not been allowed to see a cardiologist.
