The Arakan Army stated that armed extremist Islamist militants operating in Bangladesh have received support and cooperation from certain corrupt Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials who back their extremist ideology.
Regarding the attacks carried out by armed extremist Islamist Rohingya groups, the Arakan Army stated in a press release yesterday, September 27.
The Arakan Army stated that these Rohingya-claiming armed extremist groups have fully secured military and logistical support, and have established fortified militant camps near Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) posts. From these bases, they have been carrying out violent operations inside the Arakan region.
The Arakan Army stated that from these bases, the armed extremist Islamist groups have been entering the Arakan region to carry out violent attacks on local civilians, as well as launching assaults on some of the Arakan Army’s border security posts.
The Arakan Army stated that the Bangladeshi government should immediately identify and take action against certain Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials who are supporting and enabling these extremist groups, as well as others who back their violent activities from across the border.
The Arakan Army warned that if such permissiveness continues, it could undermine border stability, security, and bilateral relations, while also increasing tensions between the two sides.
The Arakan Army stated that renewed militant activity by Rohingya-claiming extremists along the Arakan-Bangladesh border directly threatens the safety and security of civilians throughout the Arakan region.
They also warned that such activity endangers foreign investments in the area, as well as the safety and lives of visiting foreigners.
For this reason, the Arakan Army called on the international community to closely monitor and ensure proper oversight of the situation.
The Arakan Army has urged that the Bangladeshi government and the Arakan Army quickly find ways to achieve mutual understanding and prioritize cooperative measures between the two sides.
