Gwa, October 29.
Four young people, including a child displaced by conflict and a local married couple, drowned on October 28 after a group of young people went swimming in the sea at Kanthaya Beach in Gwa Township, which is under the control of the Arakan Army (AA).
The deceased were identified as Ma May Poe Eain, 17, and Ma Thet Hnin Wai, 20, both from Kanthaya Village; Maung Htun Lin Naing, 24; and Maung Zwe Nay Thway, 14, who had been displaced by conflict from Laymyethna Township in Ayeyarwady Region.
Among the deceased, Ma Thet Hnin Wai and Maung Htun Lin Naing were a married couple from Gwa Township. The bodies of all four young people who drowned were cremated on the morning of October 29.
Local residents have warned swimmers to exercise caution at Kanthaya Beach, as conditions can be dangerous during high tides and changes in sea currents.
Drowning incidents involving people swimming in the sea, rivers, and streams across the Arakha region have gradually increased. Local residents and visitors are therefore urged to exercise particular caution.
