Bangladesh, September 28.
The United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) has suggested that ways to promote mutual understanding between the Bangladeshi government and the Arakan Army should be found as quickly as possible, with priority given to cooperation between the two sides.
The suggestion was made in a statement issued yesterday, September 27, regarding the violent attacks carried out by Islamist extremist militant groups.
The Arakan Army stated that the resurgence of Rohingya militant activities along the Arakan-Bangladesh border poses a direct threat not only to the security of all local communities in Arakan but also indirectly endangers foreign investments in the region as well as the safety and lives of foreign nationals involved in those investments.
Therefore, the Arakan Army urged the international community to closely monitor and take steps to ensure proper oversight of the situation.
The Arakan Army stated that the Bangladeshi government should urgently identify and take action against certain BGB officers and individuals within the country who are supporting, aiding, or encouraging Islamist extremist militant groups. These groups have established strongholds inside Bangladesh, crossed into Arakan, brutally killing Arakanese civilians, and attacking some of the Arakan Army’s border security posts.
The Arakan Army warned that if such actions are not taken and these groups are allowed to continue operating freely, it could undermine border stability, security, and bilateral relations, while further escalating tensions between the two sides.
Although the Arakan Army has completely secured and controls the Arakan-Bangladesh border, local residents report that armed extremists under the name of Rohingya continue to cross the border and carry out violent attacks.
Local residents said these extremists have been abducting civilians for ransom, as well as capturing and brutally killing them, leaving civilians in the border areas living in constant fear and insecurity.
Refugees from Bangladesh said the extremists have also been launching violent attacks on Arakan Army outposts and personnel, while recruiting and training new members. They warned that, as a result, violent attacks could soon erupt in Maungdaw District.
