The Arakan Army (AA) stated that on September 16, armed extremist groups carried out abductions and brutal killings of ten villagers from Tamanthar and Donnyo villages along the Maungdaw border, which is under AA control.

In a statement issued yesterday, September 27, it was reported that extremist Islamist militant groups have carried out a series of violent attacks. These attacks reportedly occurred continuously along the border over the past week.

The Arakan Army stated that along the Arakan-Bangladesh border, three separate violent attacks targeted non-Muslim Rakhine and other ethnic communities, carried out by extremist groups claiming to be Rohingya.

These extremist militant groups reportedly crossed into Maungdaw District from Bangladesh via the Naf River and Mayu Mountain routes, repeatedly attacking several Arakan Army border security posts.

The Arakan Army stated that these extremist groups have also been continuously carrying out brutal attacks on local Arakanese communities, including ambush killings, abductions and torture, extortion, robbery, and kidnappings for ransom.

Extremist Islamist groups crossing the border from Bangladesh into Maungdaw District have reportedly been killing local civilians on a daily basis.

The Arakan Army stated that the extremist militants have been deliberately dressing the bodies of civilians they killed in AA military uniforms and releasing photos and videos, apparently attempting to cover up the civilian killings they committed.

Extremist islamist militants are reportedly dressing the bodies of civilians in AA uniforms and military gear, then spreading propaganda that these were Arakan Army soldiers killed in combat.

Residents of Maungdaw said that the abductions and killings of civilians along the Arakan-Bangladesh border in Maungdaw Township are also linked to drug-related activities.
