A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday at around 12:30 AM in Kutupalong Lambashia, Camp 1W, one of the largest Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. Within an hour, the blaze spread rapidly, destroying more than 400 shelters and leaving hundreds of families displaced.

According to initial reports, at least 619 shelters were affected, with 469 completely burned to the ground. Tragically, the charred bodies of a child and an elderly person were discovered amid the wreckage, highlighting the deadly impact of the fire.

Rohingya refugees and local authorities responded swiftly to contain the fire, while humanitarian agencies and camp management have since mobilized efforts to assist the affected families. Emergency relief, including food, water, and temporary shelters, is being provided.

Reconstruction efforts are already underway, with affected families receiving materials and support to rebuild their shelters. Aid organizations, along with local and international NGOs, are working closely with the community to restore housing as quickly as possible.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though similar incidents in the past have often been linked to cooking accidents, faulty electrical connections, or arson. Refugees are calling for stronger fire prevention measures to avoid further tragedies in the overcrowded camps.
