Buthidaung, May 19
On May 18, the Arakan Army (AA) released over 300 family members of junta-affiliated personnel in Buthidaung Township, which is currently under AA control.
Among those released were 26 households comprising 69 people from the Khami, Mro, and Thet ethnic groups, as well as 81 Rakhine households with a total of 245 people. Altogether, 314 individuals were released.
The family members of junta-affiliated personnel were detained by the Arakan Army (AA) during the battle for control of Buthidaung town. They were released on the one-year anniversary of that battle.
Those junta-affiliated family members were captured by the Arakan Army (AA) during the battles to seize the No. 15 Military Operations Command Headquarters and the No. 551 Light Infantry Battalion based in Buthidaung town.
In addition, plans are underway to release the remaining junta-affiliated family members as well.
The Arakan Army (AA) fully captured the entire Buthidaung Township on May 18 last year.
In addition, over 200 family members of junta-affiliated personnel who were detained during the battle for Minbra town were released on April 16. Earlier, on April 13, another 170 family members were also released.
In the Arakan decisive war, the Arakan Army has fully seized and now controls 15 townships, including the Paletwa region.
It is reported that during these town-capturing operations, the Arakan Army has detained over 10,000 individuals, including junta troops and their family members.
