The Union Election Commission of the military-led junta is reportedly planning to hold elections in 267 townships.

The election is expected to take place in the last week of December and will use both the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) system and the Proportional Representation (PR) system.

The election will reportedly be held in phases across all regions and states, with specific dates for each phase to be announced separately.

The announcement of election dates will depend on the security situation in each area. Elections will be conducted only in townships deemed secure, while the authorities will also release a list of areas where elections cannot be held.

In the upcoming election, two voting systems will be used for the Pyithu Hluttaw (House of Representatives), Amyotha Hluttaw (House of Nationalities), and the regional and state parliaments. Relevant election laws and regulations will also be issued, according to reports.

Voting will be conducted using Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVMs), which are said to operate on a microcontroller system. Authorities claim the system is simple, secure, and reliable.

In addition, efforts are underway to issue revised election laws and regulations that align with the new voting systems. Voters will be able to elect representatives for each designated constituency under the updated framework, according to reports.

In the Arakan region, the junta currently controls only three townships Sittwe, Kyaukphru, and Manaung. Meanwhile, the Arakan Army (AA) is actively launching offensives to fully seize control of Kyaukphru Township.

Some political parties, including the Arakan Front Party led by Dr. Aye Maung, have registered with the junta-appointed Union Election Commission.
