Camp-6, Cox’s Bazar July 6, 2025
Tragedy struck the Rohingya community in Camp-6 when 8-year-old Ziaur Rahman went missing after falling into a stream of fast-flowing water during heavy rainfall. The boy reportedly slipped from a bamboo bridge while returning home after delivering food to his father, who was working at a nearby shop.
The incident occurred on the evening of July 6 amid continuous rain, which had made the bamboo bridge slippery and dangerous. Ziaur’s family and neighbors launched an immediate search but hopes began to fade as the hours passed without any sign of him.
After an entire day of searching, local fishermen discovered Ziaur Rahman’s body under the Customs Bridge near Camp-8E on July 7. The body was later identified by family members.
The heartbreaking incident has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of makeshift bamboo bridges in the refugee camps, especially during the monsoon season. Community members are urging humanitarian agencies and authorities to take urgent steps to improve infrastructure and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Ziaur Rahman’s death has left his family and community in deep mourning.
