High-Level Bangladeshi Delegation Visits Rohingya Camps in Ukhiya

A high-level delegation from the Interim Government of Bangladesh visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya on Monday afternoon to assess the ongoing humanitarian operations and security arrangements.

The delegation included prominent officials such as the Home Affairs Advisor, Lt. General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury; Liberation War Affairs and Disaster Management & Relief Advisor, Mr. Faruk-i-Azam, Bir Protik; Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor (Defense), Lt. General (Retd.) Abdul Hafiz, ndc, psc; and Mr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. Several other government officials also accompanied them.

During the visit, Mr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) and an Additional Secretary, briefed the delegation on the overall situation in the camps. The briefing covered key aspects including the humanitarian aid response, current challenges, and steps taken to improve the living conditions for the nearly one million Rohingya refugees residing in the camps.

The delegation also closely monitored the security arrangements in place across the camps. This included inspections of watchtowers, checkpoints, and the deployment of law enforcement personnel to maintain order and safety. They further reviewed the coordination between agencies involved in providing humanitarian services and emergency response systems.

The visit comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to enhance security, improve services, and ensure preparedness in the refugee camps, which have faced growing concerns over criminal activities, trafficking, and the deteriorating humanitarian situation.
