In a series of coordinated operations, law enforcement authorities conducted successful raids across several Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf, leading to multiple arrests related to drug trafficking, illegal gambling, and outstanding criminal warrants.
During an operation in Chakmarkul Camp, Rohingya youth Joynal Uddin (27), son of Md. Alam and Amina Khatun, residing at Block 29 of Camp-8 (Balukhali), was arrested while allegedly in possession of Yaba tablets. Authorities acted on a tip-off and apprehended Joynal in front of the Fajur Tea Shop in A/2 Block, where he was reportedly involved in drug trading activities.
In a separate operation in Leda Camp’s F Block, law enforcers raided the Paan-Cigarette-Tea shop owned by Md. Shah Alam (34), following reports of illegal gambling. The raid led to the arrest of five individuals:
- Nurul Alam (58), son of Amir Hossain, from Uluchamari (Rasulabad), Ward No. 8, Hrila Union Parishad
- Mohammad Rahim (20), son of Nur Salam, Block-B/LMS, FCN-263682
- Jahangir (18), son of Maktul Hossain, Block-B/LMS, FCN-263823
- Anwar Faisal (21), son of Hamidul Islam, Block-C/LMS, FCN-255157
- Abdul Karim (20), son of Bashir Karim, Block-C, FCN-263682
All five are residents of Camp-24 (Leda), Teknaf. Authorities recovered gambling equipment, one smartphone, and cash from the scene. The seizure was documented in the presence of witnesses under appropriate lighting conditions.
In another operation at the Nayapara Registered Camp, two individuals with existing warrants were apprehended.
Md. Kabir Majhi (45), son of the late A. Salam, residing in Block-F/5 of Nayapara Extension, was arrested from B Block. He was wanted in two cases filed with Teknaf Model Police Station – Case No. 57/863 under Section 19(F) of the Arms Act, 1878, and Case No. 58/864 under Section 36(1), Table 10(a) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.
Chenora Begum (45), wife of Md. Faruk and holder of MRC-38221, was also detained from Block-E, Shed-953. She is accused in Case No. 32 filed with Hathazari Police Station, Chattogram, under Section 19(1) of 9(b) of the Narcotics Control Act, 1990.
All arrested individuals, along with the confiscated evidence, have been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order in the camps and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to help ensure the safety and security of all residents.
