A recent wave of violence in the Rohingya refugee camps has left the community shaken, following the abduction of three men and a brutal assault on a camp leader and his son.

On 21 July 2025, a group of unidentified individuals launched a violent attack on a sub-majhi (a community leader) and his son in Camp 4. The victims were severely beaten, and the assault has sent shockwaves throughout the refugee population. Community members describe the incident as a heartbreaking act of violence that has intensified fear and insecurity in the camps.

Just hours after the attack, on 22 July, three Rohingya refugee men from the same camp were abducted by an armed group and taken to Camp 17. Two of the abductees were later rescued through a joint operation led by the Armed Police Battalion (APBN), but both were found in critical condition and have been admitted to local hospitals for emergency treatment.

The third abductee remains in captivity, and his safety is still uncertain. Authorities have yet to release further details on the ongoing efforts to secure his release.

The back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about the deteriorating security situation in the camps. Community leaders and rights advocates are urging the authorities to strengthen protection measures and take swift action against those responsible for the violence.

Residents of the camps are calling for peace, justice, and an end to the growing influence of criminal and armed groups that continue to destabilize the fragile lives of Rohingya refugees.
