Kyaukphru, August 4.

The Union Election Commission officially registered the Rakhine Nationalities Party as a political party today, August 4.

The party is led by former Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) MP U Ba Shein, and its headquarters is located at No. 49, U Uttama Street, Central Ward, Kyaukphru Town.

The Union Election Commission under the military council granted permission to establish the party on June 9. Subsequently, the party applied for official registration on June 24.

The military council has officially registered the Arakan Front Party, led by Dr. Aye Maung, representing the Rakhine ethnic group. Similarly, the Rakhine Nationalities Party, led by U Ba Shein, has also been granted registration.

Dr. Aye Maung and U Ba Shein are both former leaders of the Arakan National Party (ANP), which has not been granted permission to re-establish by the military council.

Observers point out that the Arakanese people have turned to armed struggle because they are unable to pursue self-determination through political means.

The Arakan Army is currently launching offensives in Kyaukphru Township, where the Rakhine Nationalities Party headquarters is located. Likewise, tensions remain high in Sittwe Township, where the headquarters of the Arakan Front Party is based.
