Ponnakyun, August 11.
In Ganan Taung Village, Ponnagyun Township, controlled by the Arakan Army, residents confirmed that during the daytime, a break-in theft occurred, resulting in the loss of 1.5 kyat (gold weight unit) of gold and over 150,000 kyat in cash.
Specifically, U U Kyaw Win’s house in Ganan Taung Village was broken into and robbed around 1 PM on August 5, according to the homeowners.
“I was napping at a neighbor’s house. When I woke up, I went back home to get rice for making alcohol and saw the door was open. I thought my daughter had opened it, so I didn’t check further. When my daughter came back and I told her about it, she said she had locked all the room doors. Then, when we checked the box, we found some items missing. The theft probably happened around 1 o’clock,” said the homeowner, Daw Thein Yin Oo, to Border News Agency.
Due to the break-in theft, a gold necklace weighing one kyat, a half-kyat gold ring, and more than 150,000 kyats in cash were stolen, explained Daw Thein Yin Oo.
The homeowner, Daw Thein Yin Oo, said she had been staying at a neighbor’s house because her daughter had gone to farm.
She said she woke up around 2 PM, returned home, but did not notice the door was open.
Later, around 5 PM when her daughter returned from farming, they realized that the house had been broken into and items were stolen.
“We could say we were lucky because the thief didn’t take everything. When we opened the container where the valuables were kept, the 1.5 kyat gold and some money were missing. But they didn’t take all the items. It seems they only took what they needed and left some behind. The items they left were even left intact as before,” said a family member to Border News Agency.
The family members said they have reported the burglary and loss of items to the village administrator.
Frequent incidents of burglary, robbery, and killings have been occurring in areas controlled by the Arakan Army, so the people say that the Arakan People’s Judiciary and the Department of Law Enforcement and Public Security (DLEPS) need to strengthen law enforcement and public security efforts.
On July 24, in Pyine Chaung Village, Kyauktaw Township, a woman over fifty years old was stabbed and killed. Additionally, gold worth 4 kyats and cash amounting to 1.5 million kyats were stolen.
Additionally, on July 3, in Kyauktaw town’s market, a woman was assaulted and robbed of 2 kyats worth of gold and 600,000 kyats in cash, according to reports.
Additionally, during the first week of July in Kyauk Taw Township’s Kwan On Chaung Village, the rice mill owner, U Kyaw Thet Hlaing’s house was attacked and robbed, resulting in the loss of some cash including 10 kyats worth of gold, according to reports.
