Kyauktaw, August 11.

On August 11, the Arakan Army (AA) reported that 926 civilians have been killed due to attacks by the Myanmar junta in Arakan.

This was officially stated at the 10th press conference of the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA).

“The military junta’s air strikes, heavy weapons, and unlawful arrests and killings may have caused even higher civilian casualties,” said Khine Thu Kha, spokesperson for the Arakan Army.

The junta’s deliberate targeting has resulted in the deaths of 926 civilians and injuries to 1,954 others, according to the AA.

Additionally, 947 civilians have been detained, but the exact timeframe for these arrests has not been specified.

Furthermore, due to air strikes and heavy weapons fired by the military junta, 10,502 homes, 90 religious buildings, 45 schools, 12 hospitals and clinics, and 22 bridges were destroyed.

In addition, over 1,100 other buildings, including three structures belonging to the UN, INGOs, and NGOs, were also damaged.

In the decisive Arakan battle, the Arakan Army has seized and controlled 15 townships, and is administering governance as the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government.

Because of this, the Myanmar junta is deliberately targeting and attacking civilian populations, the Arakan Army states.

“As the military council suffers decisive and severe military defeats against the Arakan Army, they have resorted to a ‘scorched earth’ tactic, detaining, torturing, and killing innocent civilian populations in the three townships they still control,” said the Arakan Army spokesperson, Khine Thu Kha.

The junta controls only three townships: Sittwe, Kyaukphru, and Man Aung. In these areas, junta forces have been deliberately targeting civilians, carrying out arrests and killings.

Additionally, the junta frequently conducts airstrikes on territories controlled by the Arakan Army, resulting in numerous civilian deaths and injuries.
