In Maungtaw Township, controlled by the Arakan Army (AA), locals confirm that a civilian was killed by Rohingya extremists, and another person was injured.

“On the evening of August 10, U Mae Htun Hla, 55, from Khare Myine Village in Maungtaw Township, was reportedly attacked and fatally stabbed by Rohingya extremists in the Goduthara Creek area.”

In addition, Hla Maung Thein, aged over 30, who was with him, escaped with knife wounds, according to villagers from Khare Myine.

“They were caught and stabbed by extremists while going to catch fish in the creek. Their hands and feet were also cut. One of them had severe leg injuries and likely couldn’t run away in time. The other managed to escape despite wounds,” said a woman resident of Khare Myine Village to Border News Agency.

The two civilians were captured and killed by Rohingya extremists residing in Pa-Nyaungpin Gyi Village, according to local residents of Maungtaw.

Local residents of Maungtaw say that although many Rohingya extremists have entered Maungtaw town and Myoma Kanyintan ward, the authorities have not conducted any search or arrest operations.

Because of this, the Rohingya extremists are reportedly present in large numbers in many areas, living openly and committing violent acts against the civilian population, according to Maungtaw locals.

“Those who captured and killed civilians during the Maungtaw clashes are now being seen again. The locals say they recognize them. Now people don’t dare to go fishing or gather vegetables on the hills. They have noticed that these groups have become more numerous than before,” said a local woman from Maungtaw to Border News Agency.

“Although the Arakan Army (AA) has conducted search operations in the areas where civilians were brutally captured and killed, the locals say they have not yet been able to apprehend any of the extremists,” said residents of Maungtaw.

In Maungtaw Township, in the northern part of Kanyin Taw village tract, the villagers say that Mortaza Hazar Saor, a 33-year-old son of Buhur Saor, has been allowing Rohingya extremists to reside in the village, prompting locals to report and notify the authorities.

However, locals in Maungtaw say that members of the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government and other officials have not taken effective action, leading to an increase in the number of extremists.
