An 18-year-old Rohingya youth, Nurul Absar, was brutally murdered by unknown assailants in the Ghumdum area on Sunday. His body was later discovered outside the refugee camp, sparking fear and grief within the community.
Absar, who worked as a tomtom driver to support his family, was known as a hardworking and responsible young man. According to initial findings, he was tortured and slaughtered with a knife, in what appears to be a violent and inhumane attack.
His devastated parents, Zafar Alam and Hazara Khatun, residents of Camp 1 East (RC), Block G-17, are struggling to cope with the tragic loss of their son. They have appealed to the authorities to take urgent action and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“This incident shows how unsafe we are inside and outside the camps,” said a community member. “If such crimes go unpunished, more innocent lives will be lost.”
The killing highlights the growing insecurity and vulnerability faced by Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar. Community leaders and human rights groups are urging law enforcement and humanitarian agencies to strengthen protection measures and ensure justice for the victim.
