At the Arakan-Bangladesh border in Maungdaw Township, the Arakan Army (AA) has seized UNICEF-branded bags from Rohingya extremists.

According to reports, AA troops encountered two Rohingya extremists who had illegally crossed the border and were attempting to carry out attacks near the western side of Kyun Pauk Pyu Su Village in Maungdaw Township.

The two extremists managed to flee back into Bangladesh, but left behind UNICEF-branded bags, supplies, and ammunition, AA sources said.

Rohingya refugees have alleged that these armed extremists mainly operate from refugee camps in Bangladesh and are carrying out attacks with assistance and protection from the Bangladeshi military.

Residents of Maungdaw said Rohingya extremists have been repeatedly crossing the border illegally and committing violent acts in the district.

They added that AA outposts and military camps along the Arakan-Bangladesh border in Maungdaw District have also come under frequent attacks, and that civilians have faced harassment, abductions, and killings by these extremist groups.

Furthermore, eyewitnesses in Maungdaw said that Rohingya extremists are living among local civilians in many areas, while also setting up camps along border routes and near certain sections of the Mayu mountain range in preparation for attacks.
