Police in Bangladesh have arrested three men within 72 hours for the brutal killing of rickshaw driver Nurul Absar, a Rohingya refugee living in the Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.

The arrests were made on Tuesday night, August 19, inside Camp No. 2 East of Kutupalong. The suspects were identified as Shafi Alam (28), son of Ali Ahmed; Imam Hossain (20), son of Hamid Hossain; and Abul Hashim (45), son of Nur Ahmed.

According to police, Nurul Absar left his home with his three-wheeler on Saturday but never returned. His family tried to reach him by phone throughout the night, but all attempts failed. The following morning, his body was discovered in the Kuchubonia area of Ramu Upazila, his throat slit.

Investigators later found evidence linking the three men to the murder. During preliminary questioning, the suspects confessed to their involvement, police said.

Officer-in-Charge of Ramu Police Station, Masrul Haque, told reporters: “We immediately launched a serious investigation after the killing. With the support of technology and field intelligence, we were able to capture the three suspects within 72 hours.”

Police have yet to disclose the motive behind the murder. Security forces in the border region have been reinforced to prevent further crimes and maintain law and order. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether others were involved in the incident.
