From August 1 to 27, 18 civilians were killed in Arakan (Rakhine) due to actions by the junta forces.
Among the victims, 1 was in Sittwe, 3 in Kyaukphru, and 14 in Mrauk-U, making a total of 18 deaths.
According to information from the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), in Sittwe on August 9, a 45-year-old woman, Daw Su Hlaing, was arrested by the junta on accusations of being linked to the Arakan Army (AA) and died the following day.
In addition, on August 14, U Khin Maung Chit, aged 40, from Leik Khamaw Village in Kyaukphru Township, was killed, and on August 16, Daw Ma Kyan Thein, aged 51, and U Zaw Aye Myint, aged 48, both originally from Leik Khamaw Village but taking shelter in Gawtu Village of Kyaukphru Township, were killed due to artillery shelling by the junta forces.
On August 25, a junta jet fighter bombed Dainkyi Ward in Mrauk-U, killing 14 people — 9 men and 5 women. Among the dead were two children under the age of 10, and 18 other civilians were injured. The junta has not yet issued any official response regarding the incident.
On August 26, the Arakan Army released a statement regarding the Mrauk-U incident, saying the junta deliberately attacked non-military sites such as schools, hospitals and clinics, markets, religious buildings, roads and bridges, displacement camps, and densely populated towns and villages, committing clear war crimes.
The junta forces have been frequently carrying out airstrikes on areas controlled by the Arakan Army, causing civilian casualties and injuries.
