As the final phase of the Arakan war, the Arakan Army (AA) has launched full-scale offensives and successfully taken control of 15 townships, including Paletwa. It is now implementing administrative mechanisms as part of the Arakan People’s Revolution.

The Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government is also providing public services and has started repairing some roads and bridges.

However, since the war has not yet ended and there is still a severe shortage of resources – including manpower, technology, and finances – officials from the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government say that many needs remain unmet

Among those roads and bridges, the Ponnakyun–Maungdaw border trade route is particularly important, and the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government is carrying out repairs in some sections.

This road is part of the Yangon–Maungdaw border trade route. It was previously blocked by the junta forces during the intense clashes between the Arakan Army and the Myanmar military in 2019.

That road is directly connected to the Yangon–Sittwe highway and served as a vital trade route for the direct transport of goods between Yangon and the Myanmar–Bangladesh border.

Although some bridges and road sections along this trade route were destroyed by the junta forces using landmines, the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government has repaired them, and they are now being used again.

However, due to heavy rainfall, some sections of the road have been damaged again, and local residents say that further repairs are needed to make it more durable.

The road sections in need of repair include parts between Maungdaw and Buthidaung, Buthidaung and Rathedaung, and Rathedaung and Ponnakyun.
