Kyauktaw, July 26.

In Pyine Chaung Village, Kyauktaw Township, Daw Win Nu Yi, a woman in her early fifties, was stabbed to death with a knife on the night of July 24.

She was stabbed to death while she was sleeping alone, and the perpetrators took the gold and money from the house.

Her husband, U Tun Hla Sein, reportedly only discovered her body when he returned home from the fields on July 25.

A family member of hers was interviewed by Border News Agency.

“There were two stab wounds on the left side. There were also knife cuts on her neck. The wound on the left side of the chest was more severe. When the doctor examined it last night, he said that the liver inside had been damaged. She had already passed away, and we held the funeral last night. Her name was Win Nu Yi, and she was in her early fifties. The stabbing incident happened on the 24th. When her husband returned home, he called out to his wife, asking, “Aren’t you coming down from upstairs yet?” But she didn’t move or make any sound. By that time, his wife had already passed away. He said he hadn’t heard anything at all. Their house compound is large, so voices from one side can’t easily be heard from the other. Neighbors in the surrounding houses also said they didn’t hear anything when the robbery and killing took place, even those in the houses nearby. The incident happened around midnight. During the robbery, about three or four kyat of gold was taken, along with some cash. The money had been sent from her son—ten lakh kyats—but she had withdrawn only thirty thousand kyats that day before going to bed. It is not known how much more was taken. She had four children: two sons and two daughters. Three of them live abroad, and one lives in the village. The one in the village, who is the eldest, is already married. Yes, the funeral was held last night. Family members believe the attack may have been carried out by people very close to them. The doors of the house had been left open, and the windows were also open. She had been sleeping alone, as there were no children at home. Her husband was staying in the cattle shed, while she was at home. That was when the robbers carried out the attack. The funeral was held around 5 p.m. The body had been taken to the hospital for an autopsy, which cost forty thousand kyats. The hospital vehicle brought her back in the morning, and the examination took quite a long time. The doctor said that her internal organs had been severely damaged. Her mouth, nose, and neck had cuts, and the neck had been slashed. The most severe injuries were to the chest area, with the knife piercing deeper on the left side. There were also two stab wounds on the right side, but they were less severe. She died alone. Her husband only realized what had happened when he returned home. He said, “I have no idea what happened,” and when everyone gathered, they saw the belongings scattered all over the place. It was only after he said, “My house has been robbed,” that the people in the neighborhood became aware of the incident. The AA (authorities) said they were informed and came last night as well. The police arrived, took her body, and had it examined at the hospital.”
