Kyaukphru, September 22.

According to those assisting displaced civilians, more than 40,000 war refugees in Kyaukphru Township, where clashes are ongoing between the Arakan Army (AA) and junta forces, are in urgent need of aid.

These over 40,000 displaced people fled for their lives and are now in desperate need of assistance, including food, clothing, healthcare, and shelter, the refugees said.

“Food supplies are what we need most urgently. Even without being displaced by war, it was already difficult because of rising prices and shortages. Now, as war refugees, life has become even harder. Everyone is struggling, so we don’t even dare to ask for help. But if possible, we would like to receive support with food,” a war refugee from Kyaukphru Township told Border News Agency.

Those assisting with the needs of the war refugees said that they are currently living in makeshift tents and are in urgent need of proper roofing materials and floor mats for shelter.

They added that among the displaced are many children and elderly people, creating a serious need for medicines and healthcare services.

The refugees also said they are in urgent need of food supplies, with rice being the most essential item for their daily meals.

The war refugees said that without continued food and rice assistance, it may become very difficult for them to survive.

Although some civilian and social organizations are providing food aid to the refugees, those assisting with their needs warned that because of the large number of displaced people, they could face significant long-term challenges.

“Since people across the entire township are displaced, the small amount of aid available is not enough to meet their needs. Ensuring proper food and daily meals is very important. Previously, organizations were providing assistance, but as the displacement continues, aid has become more limited. There is an urgent need for consistent and reliable support,” said one person helping the war refugees.

In Kyaukphru Township, clashes between the Arakan Army and junta forces are intensifying, and the junta is reportedly reinforcing its troops and resisting with combined ground and artillery attacks.

In addition, civilians and villages are being deliberately targeted by the junta, with reports of shootings aimed at ordinary people and the burning and destruction of villages, according to local residents.

The Humanitarian and Development Cooperation Office (HDCO) has reported that over 60,000 war refugees are currently in areas controlled by the Arakan Army.
