Thandwe, September 22
It is reported that the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government (APRG) released 70 junta soldiers who had surrendered with their weapons during battles in towns such as Thandwe and Gwa, after making them sign pledges of allegiance.
Since they surrendered along with their weapons and ammunition, each of them was reportedly provided with a financial support of 1 million kyats.
Additionally, the APRG has also released junta soldiers and their family members who were captured in townships such as Buthidaung, Maungdaw, Minbra, and Taunggoke.
It is reported that a total of 1,266 junta soldiers have so far been released in the Arakan final offensive.
The Arakan Army (AA) is said to be holding over 10,000 junta troops, including members of the junta military commission and their families, and has stated that releases will be carried out based on the security situation.
The AA has completely seized control of 15 townships, including Paletwa Township, and is now operating administrative mechanisms under the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government.
Only the townships of Kyaukphru, Sittwe, and Man Aung remain for the Arakan Army (AA) to seize control, and in Kyaukphru Township, intense clashes are ongoing between both sides.
