Junta Troops Abduct Man and Two Women Fleeing War in Kyaukphru

Kyaukphru, September 26.

Local residents from Kyaukphru reported that junta forces have abducted one man and two women who were fleeing the conflict between the Arakan Army and the junta in Kyaukphru Township.

They were identified as U Thein Kyaw Aung, 57, Daw Tin Tin San, 30, and Daw Ma Khine Oo, 40, all from Gawtu Village in Kyaukphru Township, according to reports.

They were reportedly abducted on the afternoon of September 25 by junta troops hiding near a creek close to Gawtu Village.

They were among those taking shelter as war refugees in Chaung Wa Village, Kyaukphru Township, and were reportedly abducted while returning from harvesting vegetables at their farmland in their native village, Gawtu.

“They were war refugees who went to collect vegetables from their remaining farmland. That’s when junta soldiers, who were hiding near a creek close to Gawtu Village, captured them,” a local resident told Border News Agency.

It is still unclear why the three were arrested, but reports indicate that they are being held at a junta military camp near Gawtu Village.

Family members are deeply worried as the three have not yet been released.

Fighting between the Arakan Army and junta forces in Kyaukphru Township has been ongoing since February 20.

Junta troops have been conducting military operations in Gawtu Village, forcing residents to flee their homes and seek safety as war refugees.

On September 3, junta soldiers also abducted two displaced residents from Kyan Chaing Village who were taking shelter in Wa Doe Village, Kyaukphru Township.
