Three family members have been arrested by the Department of Law Enforcement and Public Security in connection with the alleged killing of a man with a machete and the subsequent disposal of his body in Thayar Kone Village, Injapoura Township, an area controlled by the Arakan Army (AA).
On the morning of August 3, 31-year-old U Maung Hla Than and his 29-year-old wife, Daw Than Than Htay, reportedly got into an argument at their home in Thayar Kone Village. During the argument, the husband allegedly attempted to stab their three-month-old baby with a spear. In response, his wife reportedly became enraged and struck him in the neck with a machete, killing him.
Afterward, the victim’s father-in-law, 57-year-old U Aung Kyaw Thein, and his brother-in-law, 27-year-old Ko San Lin Chay, allegedly took the body to the Kyet Sin River and threw it into the river as darkness began to fall.
They also reportedly attempted to conceal evidence by painting over the bamboo wall of the house, which had been stained with blood, using blue paint.
The victim’s decomposed body was found on August 5 at a shrimp-farming area between Khamaung Taw Village and Wet Khaung Village in Myebon Township. The body reportedly had signs of decomposition and cut wounds.
The three family members who confessed to committing the crime were arrested on August 8, after obtaining detention orders from the authorities. Legal proceedings are reportedly being taken against them in accordance with the law.
