The Arakha People’s Revolutionary Government has been taking measures to prevent and crack down on human trafficking and cyber-scam operations in the region, according to a statement released by the Arakha Crime-Related News Information Team on August 29.
Taking advantage of Myanmar’s political and military instability and economic hardships, human trafficking networks have reportedly lured people with promises of employment, illegally transporting them to Thailand and China, forcing them to work, and selling them to cyber-scam operations.
In addition, people attempting to leave the region through brokers and across borders to evade the National Defense Emergency Provision (NDEP) of the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) have reportedly been deceived and exploited by brokers, arrested by the military junta and forced into military service, or exposed to life-threatening dangers while traveling through forests and mountainous areas.
Under the NDEP, the Arakha People’s Revolutionary Government requires adults to serve in the military. During the emergency period, those attempting to leave the region illegally through border areas are reportedly screened. Those who meet the criteria are conscripted, while those who do not are released after being punished. Human trafficking brokers are also being prosecuted in accordance with the law, according to the statement.
Among those detained and prosecuted, U Zaw Zaw Moe, a human trafficking broker from Kyauk Saut Village, Ramree Township, reportedly died on August 25 while receiving medical treatment for breathing difficulties and exhaustion.
The government’s relevant department reportedly took action against 35 cases, including human trafficking and violations of overseas employment laws, during the seven-month period from January to July 2026. It urged the public to remain cautious and avoid being deceived by employment offers.
