Two civilians were killed when Myanmar’s military junta launched an airstrike on Phet Kya Village in Ponnagyun Township, which is under the control of the Arakkha Army (AA).
At approximately 12:40 a.m. today, September 23, the junta’s air force attacked Phet Kya Village, dropping nearly 20 bombs.
As a result of the attack, two people were killed: U Maung Mya Kyi, 57, who had been taking refuge in Phet Kya Village, and U Aung Than Maung, 76, a resident of the village.
On September 17, the junta’s air force also attacked Phet Kya Village, injuring one person and setting fire to and destroying a residential house.
Fighting between the Arakkha Army and the junta has been intensifying since September 4 along the Sittwe–Ponnagyun Township border.
As a result, the junta has been deliberately targeting towns under AA control with daily airstrikes and heavy weapons attacks.
Due to these attacks, thousands of local residents from more than 20 villages in Ponnagyun Township, including Kwan Taung, Spar Hta, Phet Kya, and Dee Par Yone, have been forced to flee to safer areas.
