The United League of Arakan (ULA) announced today, September 23, that it has formed the Arakha Public Media Council with 15 members.
The council was formed to protect the right of the people of Arakha to access accurate information, media freedom, and the rights of journalists. It is also intended to support the development of the media sector.
The council was officially established under ULA Order No. 48/2026. It has 15 members, including one chairperson, one vice-chairperson, three secretaries, one treasurer, one auditor, and other members.
The council’s leadership includes:
Chairperson: U Aung Min Oo
Vice-Chairperson: U Thein Tun Zan
Secretary (1): U Naung Khine Aung
Secretary (2): U Aung Tun Sein
Secretary (3): U San Shwe Tun
Member: U Khine Myat Kyaw
According to the announcement, the council includes eight people from the media sector, two from the literature sector, and one representative each from the youth, women, legal, finance, and accounting sectors.
The Arakha Public Media Council said it will begin carrying out its duties starting next week.
In addition, the Arakha Media Council (AMC) was formed on June 22. Independent journalists are members of that council.
However, journalists have said that the Arakha Public Media Council (APMC), formed by the United League of Arakan (ULA), is being presented as an intermediary body for the ULA/Arakan Army (AA) to take action against independent media organizations and journalists in areas controlled by the AA.
