Ponnagyun, October 4
The death toll from the Myanmar military’s airstrike on the Yo Ngu (Bya La) displacement camp in Ponnagyun Township, an area controlled by the Arakan Army (AA), has risen to 11.
The airstrike was carried out this afternoon, October 4. Five more displaced people died from their injuries after being taken for medical treatment, bringing the total number of deaths to 11.
Six displaced people were killed at the scene in the initial attack. Of the seven displaced people who were seriously injured and receiving medical treatment, five later died from their injuries.
Among the 11 people who have died are U Tun Win, 61; U Tun Sein Maung, 58; Maung Moe Win, also known as Lu Gyi Than, 38; and Win Shwe Soe, also known as Nyi Chay, 24.
The identities of the other victims are still being confirmed. Two injured people are continuing to receive medical treatment, while rescue teams are still searching among the damaged buildings for people who may have been killed or injured.
