Ponnagyun, October 5
A woman volunteer health worker at a charity clinic was killed after the Myanmar military carried out an airstrike on the Pan Nilar internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Ponnagyun Township, an area controlled by the Arakan Army (AA), at around 9 a.m. today, October 5.
The Myanmar military attacked the camp using three fighter jets and six bombs. One of the bombs hit the Arakha Clinic directly and exploded, killing the female volunteer health worker.
“The military came with three fighter jets and dropped six bombs. One bomb hit the Arakha Clinic directly and killed a young woman who was working there as a volunteer. While the aircraft were flying over the area, the displaced people became frightened and had to run away,” a Ponnagyun resident told Border News Agency.
Y-12 surveillance aircraft were also seen flying over the area. As a result, IDPs were forced to leave the camp and urgently seek safer places.
On October 4, the Myanmar military also carried out an airstrike on the Yo Ngu (Bya La) IDP camp in Ponnagyun Township using two fighter jets. The attack killed six displaced people and injured many others.
The latest attack on the Pan Ni La IDP camp took place before the funerals of those killed in the previous attack had even been completed, as the Myanmar military continued its airstrikes against IDP camps in Ponnagyun Township.
