Paletwa, October 7
The Governor of Mizoram State, Lt. Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh, has urged relevant officials to speed up the construction of the Paletwa–Zorinpui road, which will connect Paletwa Township, currently controlled by the Arakan Army (AA), with Mizoram State in India.
The road construction is a key part of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP). On October 5, Mizoram Governor Lt. Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh met with Mr. Sanjay Tripathi, the Myanmar Project Head of IRCON International Ltd., at Lok Bhavan in Aizawl.
During the meeting, Mr. Sanjay Tripathi gave an update on the construction of the 109.2-kilometer road between Paletwa and Zorinpui and explained the work planned for the next stage. He said that the project is currently about 25% complete in terms of physical construction and 30% complete financially.
The Mizoram Governor stressed that the Kaladan project is a strategic project of the Government of India and therefore must be treated as a high priority. He said that further delays should not be allowed.
He also instructed the relevant authorities to make every possible effort to achieve the maximum progress during the coming dry season so that the project can be completed successfully. He assured them that full support would be provided to overcome any difficulties that might arise.
Most parts of the route of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project are currently under the control of the Arakan Army, while Sittwe Port remains under the control of Myanmar’s military junta.
The military junta is conducting offensive operations to retake the areas along the Kaladan project route. The junta has also been carrying out heavy airstrikes along the project route.
