Residents of Arakha say that the military junta has been carrying out daily airstrikes on townships under the control of the Arakan Army (AA) from September 1 through September 28.

The affected townships include Rathedaung, Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Pauktaw, Ann, Gwa, and Thandwe.

According to a statement issued by the Arakan Army on September 27, six civilians were killed and 15 others were injured in the airstrikes.

Residents say they are increasingly concerned because the airstrikes have been carried out almost daily.

“The military has been conducting more aerial reconnaissance in recent days. Then they come in groups and drop bombs. They do it even more frequently late at night and around midnight. We civilians never know when a bomb will fall, so we cannot sleep at night,” a resident of Ponnagyun Township told Border News Agency.

In addition to airstrikes, the military junta has also been attacking townships under AA control with artillery and suicide drones.

These attacks have damaged residential buildings as well as schools, hospitals, monasteries, and historic pagodas and temples.

Residents say areas near the coast have been particularly affected by combined attacks from the military’s ground, naval, and air forces.

“They have been conducting aerial reconnaissance over Kyintali and then bombing the area in recent days. In Thandwe, they have been attacking from the air as well as from naval vessels. We cannot even sleep at night. We have to remain constantly alert,” a military source told Border News Agency.

Arakha residents say the threat of military airstrikes has left them fearful and anxious, disrupted their normal lives, and forced many to flee to safer areas.

The Arakan Army has warned civilians to remain particularly alert to the danger of airstrikes, alleging that the military junta has been deliberately targeting civilians amid its military setbacks.
