Young Woman Killed, Four Injured in Military Junta Airstrike on Kyauktaw Town

On May 14, at 3:51 p.m., the military junta carried out an airstrike on the road behind Shwe Kyaung Monastery in Ywar Ma Ward, Kyauktaw Town. As a result, one young woman was killed, and four others were injured.

The young woman who was killed was a war-displaced person from Byine Phyu Village, Sittwe Township, who had been sheltering in Kyauktaw with her family.

The injured individuals were both war-displaced people and local residents of Kyauktaw, according to locals from the town.

“A single bomb was dropped. The injured are being transported to emergency medical facilities. Houses have also collapsed. There could be more deaths. Since some people are still trapped under the rubble, we can’t confirm the exact number of casualties yet,” a local resident from Kyauktaw told Border News Agency.

In addition, several residential homes were also destroyed.

On May 13, the military junta conducted an airstrike on Tun Ra Way (old) village in Rathedaung Township, killing 12 people and injuring 23 others.

Additionally, Kyauktaw town was also targeted in airstrikes by the junta on April 13 and 19, during which one man was killed and 24 others were injured.
