Chinese President Xi Jinping told Myanmar junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing that the safety and security of Chinese projects, organizations, and staff in Myanmar must be guaranteed.

During their meeting in China on August 30, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged Myanmar junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to ensure the safety and security of Chinese projects, organizations, and personnel in Myanmar.

The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar stated this in its report on the meeting, which also included other details.

The junta leader is in China to attend the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit as well as the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.

Chinese interests are located in Kyaukphru Township, where intense fighting has been ongoing between the Arakan Army and junta forces.

Because of this, local sources say China has been providing the junta military with support, including technology such as drones, to help safeguard its projects and interests.

It was also stated that there is a desire to jointly build a high-quality “Belt and Road” with China, expand cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and infrastructure, and bring greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.

However, the people of Myanmar, including those in Rakhine, have criticized China for interfering in Myanmar’s internal affairs and for providing support and protection to the military junta.
