Residents of Kyauktaw said that the junta forces carried out an airstrike on the mountain range near Zee Chaung Village in Kyauktaw Township, which is under the control of the Arakan Army (AA), on the night of September 10.

Residents of Kyauktaw said that around 11 p.m. on September 10, a junta jet fighter carried out a series of bombings on the mountain range near Zee Chaung Dam, which is located along the Kyauktaw-Paletwa Road.

Although nearby villages heard the explosions from the airstrike, locals said they were unable to confirm the exact locations where the bombs hit or the extent of the damage.

“The explosions were extremely loud and continuous. There were about five strikes, and the bombs landed in the mountains near the Zee Chaung Dam. There were no casualties,” a Kyauktaw local told Border News Agency.

There are villages such as Thit Ta Pon, Min Thar Taung, and Letpan near the Zee Chaung Dam, and villagers said they were terrified during the incident.

Locals added that the junta forces have been conducting aerial surveillance on a daily basis and carrying out airstrikes at night when people are asleep.

They said that since the airstrikes only targeted the mountain range near the Zee Chaung Dam, there were no civilian casualties.

“The bombs didn’t land inside our village, but we were extremely worried. Since it happened at night, we couldn’t see anything clearly and had to rush out of our houses to hide in a safe place. We were afraid there might be more bombings, so we couldn’t sleep the entire night,” a Kyauktaw local told Border News Agency.

Locals said that the junta conducts almost daily aerial surveillance over Kyauktaw Township and other areas under the control of the Arakan Army (AA), causing constant fear among civilians of possible airstrikes.

On August 25, junta carried out an airstrike on Daing Kyi Ward in Mrauk-U, which is controlled by the AA, killing 15 people, including children, and injuring 18 others.
