Children in need of educational support have been identified in Thiho Aye Village, 3-mile, Maungdaw Township.
Teachers at the schools where these children are studying say that the studentsincluding those in kindergarten and primary grades need school exercise books, notebooks, chalk, pens, and other basic school supplies.
A teacher from Thiho Aye Village told Border News Agency that they need a large blackboard to teach kindergarten children, and they also need books for the students.
Although around one hundred young Mro children are studying in the village, the villagers say that most families work in farming and cannot afford school expenses.
As a result, proper school buildings have not been constructed, and children are studying in just one small classroom. The villagers say that additional school facilities are still urgently needed.
In Maungtaw Township, the cost of school exercise books and notebooks is high, so most students cannot afford to buy them.
For this reason, teachers say that the children urgently need assistance with school supplies, including blackboards and books, to continue their education.
A teacher from Sihohlay Village told Border News Agency that the biggest challenge in teaching right now is the lack of a large blackboard, especially needed in the kindergarten class. In addition, a single notebook costs 2,500 kyats, which many students cannot afford. Therefore, they urgently need a large blackboard and books.
Thiho Aye Village was formed as a settlement for internally displaced people, so the villagers have to earn a living by foraging and hunting in the forests for food.
Since the village does not yet have an official school, some villagers have pooled money to provide education for the children.
The teachers are also voluntarily teaching the children and receive only a small amount of financial support from the village for educational purposes. The villagers say that donations to support the teachers would also be very helpful.
