The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) issued a statement on September 21, calling on all stakeholders, including ethnic communities, to work together to achieve lasting peace, in commemoration of the International Day of Peace.
The commission stated that peace is the foundation for people to fully enjoy their human rights. It emphasized that respecting, protecting, and promoting human rights is essential to building sustainable peace.
It also noted that, as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), recognition of the inherent rights of all human beings is the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace.
In line with this year’s International Day of Peace theme, “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday,” the commission called for collective efforts to ensure peace for everyone, everywhere, and every day.
Meanwhile, Myanmar’s military junta has continued launching airstrikes on territories controlled by revolutionary forces, including the Arakha region. Schools, hospitals, and religious buildings have also been targeted, resulting in a growing number of civilian casualties and deaths.
As a result of the junta’s attacks, civilians are increasingly living in fear for their lives. The number of internally displaced people (IDPs) forced to flee to safer areas and seek emergency food assistance continues to rise daily.
