One civilian was killed and eight others were injured when the military junta carried out airstrikes on three townships under the control of the Arakan Army (AA) on the night of September 30, according to local residents.
The military junta carried out airstrikes on Rathedaung, Ponnagyun, and Pauktaw townships.
In Ponnagyun Township, two people were injured when the military junta carried out an airstrike near Kyaukseik Village at around 9 p.m. on September 30, according to residents. The injured were four-year-old Maung Nay Kyaw Lin and 26-year-old Ma Khin Khin Than.
“The artillery shells were being fired continuously from the Sittwe side. Then the aircraft came and carried out the attack. Two people were injured,” a woman from Ponnagyun told Border News Agency.
In Rathedaung Township, the military junta carried out an airstrike on Kut Taung Village at around 10 p.m. on September 30. Villagers said that 51-year-old U Aung Tun Thein, also known as Du Gyi, was killed, while 44-year-old Daw Win Nu was injured.
“My uncle was killed and my aunt was injured,” a woman from Kut Taung Village told Border News Agency.
In addition, local residents said that five people were injured when the military junta carried out an airstrike on Pauktaw Town at around midnight on September 30.
The injured were identified as 26-year-old Ma Khin Khin Htay, 40-year-old Daw Ma Chay, 43-year-old Daw Ma Nwe Soe, 54-year-old Daw Hla Kyaw Yin, and 66-year-old Daw Ma Than Yin, according to local residents.
“The aircraft came and dropped bombs one after another. People were sleeping, so everyone was thrown into confusion. Everyone was terrified,” a woman from Pauktaw told Border News Agency.
The Arakan Army has stated that 50 people were killed and 57 injured when the military junta carried out an airstrike near the Indian Market in Kyauktaw Town, an area under AA control, at around 12 p.m. on September 28.
The military junta has been carrying out airstrikes almost daily in areas controlled by the Arakan Army, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries.
