Ponnagyun, October 1
At around 9:00 p.m. on September 30, two fighter jets belonging to Myanmar’s military junta carried out an airstrike on shelters housing internally displaced people (IDPs) near Kyauk Seik Village in Ponnagyun Township, an area under the control of the Arakan Army (AA).
The attack injured two IDPs from Ponnagyun town: four-year-old Maung Nay Kyaw Lin and 26-year-old Ma Khin Khin Than.
Maung Nay Kyaw Lin sustained injuries to his left leg after being struck by fragments of shattered glass. Ma Khin Khin Than also sustained injuries.
Although the military junta has been conducting an offensive in Ponnagyun Township, it has been unable to advance due to strong resistance from the Arakan Army.
Meanwhile, as the Arakan Army has launched counteroffensives, the military junta has been mounting heavy resistance along the border of Sittwe Township.
