Mrauk-U, August 26
The Central Office of the United League of Arakan (ULA) has urged social media influencers and other well-known people to take part in awareness campaigns to reduce and prevent child sexual abuse in areas controlled by the Arakan Army (AA).
The ULA said child sexual abuse is a human rights issue. Therefore, it has called on media organizations, writers, artists, and people who have influence over the public on social media to actively participate in awareness campaigns.
Daw Hla Mya Khaing, an official from the ULA Central Office, said, “Because this is a human rights issue, I would like to encourage media organizations, writers, artists, and influencers to take part in awareness campaigns.”
In AA-controlled areas, district, township, and community-level party committees are working together with women’s and youth organizations to conduct awareness talks, distribute pamphlets, and provide information through podcasts, according to the ULA.
The ULA also said that special courts have been opened since August 2026 to deal with serious crimes, including child sexual abuse and murder. These courts are imposing severe punishments on those who commit such crimes.
