Buthidaung, September 3

On the evening of August 30, a motorboat carrying 10 passengers was traveling from Rathedaung to Buthidaung. The boat was caught in rough waves and sank near Kadi Village in Buthidaung Township, an area controlled by the Arakha Army (AA).

The boat owner, who was also driving the boat, had been drinking alcohol. Because of the accident, Soe Moe Kyaw, a teacher from Nyaung Chaung Village School, is still missing.

Local people quickly went to the area by boat to help. Because of their rescue efforts, the boat owner and nine passengers were rescued safely.

The Arakha People’s Revolutionary Government honored six local people from Buda Pyin and Aung Pa villages who took part in the rescue. Each person received 200,000 kyats, for a total of 1.2 million kyats.

Regarding the accident, the Department of Law Enforcement and Public Security (DELEPS) is taking action against the boat owner for driving after drinking alcohol, according to the relevant procedures.
