In July, the United League of Arakha/Arakha Army (ULA/AA) arrested 77 men and women in Kyauktaw Township, which is controlled by the Arakha Army (AA), including seven members of the DLEPS group, on allegations of drug use, drug sales, and trafficking.
Of those arrested, 19 young students were officially returned to their families on August 11, while some others were also released.
However, the remaining 17 people have not yet been released, and their family members have been unable to contact them. As a result, family members held a press conference yesterday, September 3.
One of the family members explained the situation to Border News Agency.
“My son also disappeared while he was on his way somewhere. They said he was arrested from Pyidaw Thar.”
“When my son did not return home, I made inquiries. The village administrator told me that my sister’s son had also been taken for military service. That was when I found out.”
“His father was also sent to a 45-day training course. My son was among those arrested with the group of more than 70 people.”
“His father was sent for military service. He left in August last month.”
“He is already over 60 years old. Now, I want my son and the other young people who remain to be released as well.”
“In recent days, there were also some young women who were released. But those 17 people were not among those released. Eight people from DLEPS have already been released.”
