Two women who were allegedly arranging to illegally send people abroad for employment without holding an employment agency license in Mrauk-U and Paletwa townships were charged on August 30 under Section 26 of the Overseas Employment Law by the Law Enforcement and Public Security Department (DLEPS).
The accused are 30-year-old Yin Yin Win from O Htein Village in Mrauk-U Township and 21-year-old Khine Myat Mon from Hpone Village in Paletwa Township.
The two women allegedly accepted money from four women who wanted to travel to Malaysia and Yangon and attempted to arrange their illegal transportation.
On August 10, while the women were staying at a house in Kintwe Town, Chin State, awaiting transportation, they were inspected and arrested by members of the Arakan Army (AA) Intelligence Unit.
Yin Yin Win was also arrested at her home in Mrauk-U Township on August 14.
The AA Intelligence Department subsequently transferred the suspects to the Mrauk-U town DLEPS station. The two women have been charged under Case No. (P) 43 and Section 26 of the Overseas Employment Law for illegally arranging the transportation of workers without an agency license, and further legal proceedings are underway.
The authorities have also warned the public to be cautious of and avoid recruitment by unlicensed and illegal brokers. Those seeking employment abroad have been urged to carefully verify whether the agency they are dealing with holds a valid license before making arrangements to travel.
