The Arakha People’s Revolutionary Government returned seven people to their parents on September 9 after detaining and investigating them for allegedly obtaining recommendation letters through deception in an attempt to leave the country from Mrauk-U District.
The group consisted of four men and three women. They reportedly obtained recommendation letters fraudulently from relevant administrative officials and were arrested en route while attempting to cross the border under the pretext of transporting goods to the border area.
The seven individuals were also reportedly among those subject to People’s Militia service under the National Defense Emergency Provision (NDEP) enacted by the United League of Arakan.
During the handover ceremony, the Mrauk-U District Party Secretary delivered a warning and guidance speech. The seven individuals were also required to sign written pledges acknowledging their conduct and promising not to engage in similar fraudulent activities in the future.
The Arakha People’s Government has been detaining and screening people who attempt to leave the country from areas under its control using fraudulently obtained recommendation letters, and has reportedly been releasing them to their parents after issuing warnings and obtaining written pledges.
