The Arakan Army (AA) said in a statement released today, October 2, that the Myanmar military continues to carry out airstrikes on areas in the Arakha region that are not military targets, including internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, Buddhist monasteries, and residential areas.

The statement comes after the September 28 airstrike on the Indian Market in Kyauktaw. From September 30 to October 2, the Myanmar military carried out repeated airstrikes, dropping many bombs on civilian-populated areas in Rathedaung, Ponnagyun, Pauktaw, and Thandwe townships.

As a result of these airstrikes, at least 10 civilians were injured in Thandwe, Pauktaw, and Ponnagyun townships, including a four-year-old child at an IDP camp in Ponnagyun. In Kutaw Village, Rathedaung Township, one man was killed.

In addition, on October 1, the Myanmar military attacked a Buddhist monastery in Thagyae Seik Village, Kyauktaw Township, using seven fighter jets and one Y-12 aircraft. The military dropped as many as 40 bombs during the attack. The abbot of the monastery was injured, and the monastery building was completely destroyed.

The AA said that the Myanmar military is deliberately and repeatedly carrying out airstrikes on places in the Arakha region that are not military targets, and accused the military of openly committing war crimes.
